1930s - 1940s Dress - small back & side zippers.

This dress has small back and side Talon metal zippers. Dress is not lined and appears to be home made in a soft flannel like wool. Front of skirt is flat with 3 vertical seams at sides to give it soft gathers by hips. There's also a yoke seam by neckline. Should pads extend about 3/4" beyond shoulder seam, but there are no gathers at shoulder. From looking through my reference books I'm thinking mid 1930s. If you need additional information or images please let me know.

Thank you for letting me know what your thoughts are on the date of this dress and what features you considered in coming up with your date.

Always grateful for your time. Alice

I was stuck on the obvious - small neck zipper and side zipper and thought '30s and 40s - didn't know that this construction was used so late into the 40s and into the very earl 50s. Also the term cadet collar is new to me (what you don't know you don't see). But I assume it was popular after the war? Also sleeve and waist lengths were other subtle keys I didn't know to look for.

Thank you Jonathan for all the good information!
