1930\'s book

One of my treasure's from my recent trip is a bound volume of some issues of Woman's Journal (London) for 1930.

Here is a tidbit from My, 1930:
"Chanel makes a great point of snipped edges--all her hems are cut into small patterns, or perhaps into scallops."

Here is another:
"Jean Patou says only the classic jumper suit is right for sport, and he uses a lot of lace hersey in place of jersey pure and simple."

lol - I guess I am!

I have a friend who has a Chanel from 1927 and I will ask him the next time I talk with him about how the seams are finished on the inside.

THe only old Chanel I have handled was an evening dress from the mid 1930s and I don't remember the finishing although I do remember the hemline which was just cut raw (it was made of cotton net)

Claire, I have a late 20s Chanel, it's a pink silk crepe evening gown with hundreds of rows of beads, silver to white. They are scalloped down from the drop waist to the hem - the beadwork needs a lot of restoration and I haven't thought yet what to do as restoring it might not be such an idea. I'll have to check the finishing and see if it has a label.
