1930s evening wear?

Was wondering if this gown dates from early to mid 1930s and would it be classified as evening wear? I'm making this guess based on the slim profile of the dress, shaped seam at hip, and ruched neckline, sleeves and bust. There is a side zipper and loops for a belt I think the fabric is a crepe-de-chine.

Thanks for you help.

I'm actually getting a modern feel from this one - are those shoulder pads? If so, are they covered in the same fabric, can you tell what's inside. Also - can you please tell me how the seams are sewn. I had a similar dress in lilac in the early '90s, the '30s-40s styles came back in for a while and some of them are pretty good.

Nicole. you have a "good eye" for detail! I was trying to add a bit of shoulder to my dressform with cardboard so the sleeves wouldn't droop. There are no shoulder pads on the dress. Seams are pinked. Sleeves were hemmed by hand, hem of the skirt by machine. Metal side zipper. No tags. Workmanship is not perfect like I would expect from 1990s.

Aha! Thank you - the perils of not having a mannequin of every size. I think I would need to see this dress worn to see the proper shape but it does indeed appear to be older, although I hesitate to say '30s as the neckline just isn't working for me - I think it's more likely to '40s but if I could see the proper silhouette it would help.

40 years ago I was petite enough to wear this dress... :) !!! Lacking model, I will re-shoot tomorrow without the shoulder pads and submit some new, hopefully helpful, images.

It could be that it had shoulder pads that were removed. Some of those old shoulder pads really do lose their shaping depending on what they were constructed with.

With the back seam detail and the loopholes for where the original belt would have been placed, I still am seeing a lovely 40s dress here.
