1930s vintage electric manikin head.

From a 1930s vintage Millinery magazine.
Wouldn't you love to find one of these contraptions?

I DID FIND ONE! but I was too late, another dealer was buying it just as I went into the shop after admiring it in the window. It was cast aluminum and had tiny holes all over the skull, it was obviously for steaming cloche hats. This was back in 1989ish and it was $350, which was a fortune to me at the time so I don't know if I would have bought it anyway, but I didn't get the chance.

I WANT ONE!!! I had seen one in an old magazine, but it did not show this much detail as your ad. That is great. One of my teachers told me about these 25 years ago, as she had actually used one in her youth, but I have never ever come across one. It sounded too good to be true.

This is a heavenly tool for a milliner. But I'll bet it caused more than a few burns when the steam came through the felt as you shaped it on the head. Ouch!

Jonathan, I am jealous you saw one in person.

Something else to put on my list of "Gotta have" items.......

I saw one a few weeks ago at an auction - it was bizarre, so unlike anything I've seen before and went for about $800 I think. I put a couple of low bids on it but there was a lot of interest. Such an interesting contraption! Next time I'll be looking out for them and if I see one at a good price Barbara, I'll keep you in mind.
