This garment is so beautiful, made of a fine, silky satin. While it is rather plain in detail, the bias cut hugs the body so perfectly, I am having a hard time determining if it is a luxurious nightgown, or a simple 30s wedding gown.

Thoughts?

I think the tie back is typical of a nightgown, and suspect it's unlikely on a wedding gown. Also I don't think wedding dresses would have been sleeveless then.

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be able to say more definitively.

i was going to say the same thing as ruth - the ties on the back, plus the roominess in the bust (sleep comfort) say nightgown.

it's lovely :)

Fabulous Nightgown.

Was wondering what features place this nightgown in the 1940s? I have a nightgown and slip (both bias cut) that I'll be listing soon and I assumed that with the bias cut they were from the 1930s.
