I can't find any information about Frillon Lace. I have tried Google, Etsy, Ebay, and US pat website.
Does anyone know anything about it?

Also what is the name of these "fun" buttons?

The lace looks like cutwork lace. The "fun" buttons look like tuxedo studs and may not be original to he dress. The dress may have had removable covered buttons originally - so it could be laundered.

The Newspaper Archive has a number of ads for dresses ("frocks") called "Frillon Lace" for 1938, 1939 and 1940.
Oh thanks! I think I might find the dress?

I am too cheap to give them my credit card. =P

The green gem of the buttons on the sleeves are same as the one from the studs but it is different.

The buttons are men's cuff-links. Same purpose, but I don't think they were frequently seen on women's wear until the 50s.

I am a bit late to the thread, but in between demands on my time here I have been looking for information about Frillon lace. As it was around primarily (as Amanda noted) in just 1938, 1939, and 1940, there seems to be a real dearth of information about it. Appsrently the most significant feature about it, which I saw mentioned in a few ads, was its washability. One 1938 ad noted: "Frillon is that sensational new cotton lace, which is traced with colored contrasting stitching...As cool and appetizing as a long, icy drink. In all high fashion shades..." A 1939 ad for $7.99 cotton lace dresses stated: "If you're looking for a saving in something utterly cool for the 4th--you've found it! Frillon Lace is airy, light to wear...perfect all summer...for travel, too...It launders beautifully."

Yes, thanks to Lynne for research. I had a lovely dress made of this exact same lace, and I dated to just about 1940. Mine was a pale peach color and I loved it, wore it to a thread back in the 1970s, as a matter of fact. Mine was knee length, with a matching covered belt, and the buttons were also self covered in the peach cotton fabric. The buttons had a metal base on the bottom and so I suspect that on your dress they rusted or were removed if they got worn or torn (mine wore out rather quickly).

I might think that the fabric stopped production because of WWII.
