1948 Fashion Trends - in \'True Confessions\'

Testing my new scanner I copied this from a “True Confessions” magazine for Jan. 1948.

Here are some of the guidelines for dresses that year -

About shoulder pads - “Gone the chunky stuffing that made you look like a football player.”

“Hips are rounded - They’re yours without apologies. You’ll find them accented by big pockets, by every kind of draping, by the slightly padded bell shaped skirts. Waist corsets will help mold them.”

“Ankles are important - The focal point of many fashion highlights. Longer skirts covering more of the leg point up a trim ankle.”

That's marvellous Amanda! I hope you've got plenty more scans in the pipeline!

You can see it so clearly as a transitional look from the sharp, square shoulders and boxy look of the earlier 40s towards the narrower, rounder shoulders and longer length skirts of the early 50s.

I know most people hate that length of skirt (would you call it ballerina length?) but its the one that suits me best! :)
