1950s dress lace-up bodice

I have this 1950s Lavinia Fashions dress with what I'm assuming is a lace-up bodice. I've never seen this style before and was hoping someone would be able to tell me what would have been used as the lace - ribbon, or something else? And what colour do you think it would have been?

Hi Emma,
Ribbon would be nice, I think. I would use black, since it will be easier than matching either of the the other colors, but that's personal preference. It reminds me of a traditional German lace-up dirndl style, like this, sort of...LOL. Prost!

I also though it had that traditional european influence, I have only had similar on a 60's dress, that had fine two stranded twisted cord in white (over colour print fabric).
