1950s? Lilli Ann Dress

I fell in love with this Lilli Ann dress. I think it has such neat styling! Is it mid to late '50s?

It has slanted pockets on the hips, and the sleeves zip at the cuffs for a close fit.

I think you are right on the later 50s. That detail is great - exactly what Lilli Ann was good at. And the wide scoop neck takes it out of the usual little navy blue dress mode.

I'm just wondering..?

Do you think maybe the ruffles were added later? With the bow & trim, they sort of look out of place to me? But what do I know? ;)

What's the fabric? And (gulp) the size?

Thanks, Hollis! I'm pretty good at dating patterns, but I still have some trouble translating it to actual clothes. It's nice to have a second opinion!

Leisa, the trim looks original to me. Jonathan pointed out to me, though, that the hemline looks way too short. Perhaps it was shortened in the '60s to update the dress, but it was done professionally and the finishing is perfect.

I think it is wool or a wool blend, but I haven't done a burn test yet. It's a nice, heavy dress for winter wear.

Let me see...Bust 36.5", Waist 26", Hips 40". Waist to hem is only 20.5", if I remember correctly. It's a pretty good size, but it will never fit me. Maybe it will fit you? ;)
