1950s lillli diamond dress and coat help please

I found this lovely Lilli Diamond (1950s I think) brocade dress with matching coat. It appears that the red-brown lining has bled through in several places. Lining also appears to have stretched. I don't know if improper dry cleaning would do this?

Maybe dress was shortened. Hem tapes on coat and dress are slightly different colors.

I would love to rescue this set. Is there anything I can do about the bleed through. I've thought about finding someone to dye the set. Would this adversely affect the value? Would the satin trim on coat and dress need to be removed before dyeing and is it worth saving and re-attaching? I would need professional help on this. Overall does the set merit the cost and effort in a resale situati

That is pretty. Dyeing something like this is fraught with difficulty. First, most dyes require hot water which would be hard on your fabric. Second, linings ad interfacings often end up shrinking (or not shrinking!) at a different rate than the mian fabric.

I have been having great success with Folex, which is an upholstery cleaner. I learned about it here from some other members.

You should be able to find it a hardware store. You may need to reapply it a few times, but on this kind of fabric, I'm pretty sure it will make an improvement.

thanks Mary Jane! I've read about it, but never tried it. Good to hear you've been having great success with it. I'll return to this post and report my success (be positive):) after I try it.
