1950s? Nightgown or dress?

This was part of a job lot of vintage lingerie/nightwear that I bought from an online seller.
It was only described as a nightgown so I'm trying to date it and make sure it is a nightgown as I haven't seen a vintage nightgown in this style with the embroidered panel on the bust which is both on the front and back and the same kind of thing on the hem.

I made a guess at 1950s but I might be wrong.

The fabric is synthetic from what I can see and the garment is handmade with very neat seams. There doesn't seem to be any boning in the bust section. It has no zip so it just pulls on over the head.

No care label or even any indication that there was ever one

This has a 60s-70s babydoll look. If you can figure out which synthetic material it is (do a burn test), that may narrow it down a lot by when those fabrics were patented, and then later when they were mass produced. From the style, it could be from the 60s - 80s. It may have originally come with a floaty sheer peignoir to wear over it!
