1950\'s or later? heavy linen ladies skirt suit

last question (for today!)
i'm about to list this and wanted to check here first. home, or seamstress tailored (no labels and a fair bit of handfinishing - but not super neat high end handfinishing!) blue moygashel type linen suit, lined in purple acetate.
jacket is quite fitted with patch pockets, front and back darts.

skirt is pretty a-line with a back metal zip, again lined in purple.

it's quite a smart little suit, so hopefully someone will like it - just didn't want to list in the wrong category! i started off thinking maybe 40's - then got right up to late 60's, and am now back to 50's. i think i will stop for tea soon! any suggestions? (for date that is, not dinner :) )

Thank you Jonathan, I think you're right the more I look at it. I was wrong about homeomade though- it was a shop bought item as it has the very slightest remnant of one of the old bust size measurement tags in the neck of the jacket.

Off to list! :)

Hi,

Even though it's too late and you don't need this info now, I think it could be from the 40's:

I have one question that the photo doesn't answer: Are the shoulders wider than natural shoulders? If so, it could be from the mid to late 40's (acetate lining?) Maybe a wedding suit from the post WWII years?. Especially the skirt width and wide shoulders seem earlier than 50's to me.

If it's from the 50's you have to jump to the second half to find that skirt.

Just thought I'd mention the shoulder width thing.
Hope it sells, it has a nice look--great color too.

Thanks Jennifer! I bought it as 40's, it does have an acetate lining. Not too late as it didn't sell :( - which I wouldn't mind as I had bought it for me, but it was just a bit too big.

I'll take another look at it and maybe take some new pictures on my larger dress form to see if that makes the shape a little clearer, then try again!
