1950\'s Shorts?

Hi all!

I have these shorts that I think are 1950's. Well, they are not just shorts, they have a flap of material in the front that has buttons...would these be called skorts or culottes? They zipper in the back and have pleats in the back. Does this pattern have a name or anybody have suggestions what to call the pattern?? Thanks in advance for any help!

Reminds me of a bandana print. It's hard for me to get a sense of the shape.

My first thought is late 60s/early 70s. W wore these to school, even though pants were not allowed. I think the teachers were just glad our hinnies were not showing, as they surely were in the very short skirts were wore!

Are there any labels, including Union labels?

Where I live, we called it a culotte skirt, though technically, that is not what it is. I know the word "skort" was around in the 60s; as I recently saw it on a label in an ebay auction: 280235484200

Are you sure the zipper and pleats are in the back?

Yes, the zipper and the 6 pleats are in the back as the flap is in the front...they are very short and high waisted...so, 60's 70's..OK.

Bandana print came to my mind too..there is a remnant of a cut out label that has none of the writing on it. there is a size 10 tag and a faded union label that was all blue and the only words I can make out on it are ladies garment wor and the rest is all washed out.

Hows about micro-mini pleated skorts? LOL! They are short but they do have about 1 inch that can be let down. I guess I will just have to photograph them on a mannie to show the fit...thanks everyone!

yep, skort is correct as is culottes, as far as 60's/70's terminology.

we wore them as short as could be; that inseam was pretty tiny/near non-existant on some

and i agree, bandana print is a great desciptor
