1960\'s Claralura Help Needed...

I can already hear the tears fall; I bought this for $5. Yes, another person felt it was so ugly, I just had to take this home. :clapping: Anyhoo, I believe I may have the date correct but that's about it. It is a very crunchy fabric with gold and silver threads throughout. Is that embossing? It has a Doris Day look to me, but I need additional help from you ladies & gents in describing this? All the threads are excellent and the only thing I see that needs help is a little perspiration stains inside the bust. I will sell "as is" because I am honestly afraid of any cleaning. Also, would anyone risk giving me some sort of amount this could possibly go for; since I am still crying over a couple things I literally gave away on eBay. Thanks, Nadine

Agree: early '60s. It's hard to tell without touching it but it looks like it might be a kind of metallic brocade. Together, it's one heck of an ensemble. Perhaps a cocktail dress with matching opera coat? I just tend to call them "ensemble" with one of those French accents over the "e" but I have no idea if that helps them sell online. Personally, I find they generally sell better when split up but I don't do that game.

Unless the gold is cold to the touch its lurex thread which means you could wash it and it would be fine - however, the lining wouldn't wash well, so dryclean it, but don't worry about the drycleaning, it will be fine.
It looks like gold and silver brocade matelasse. You might want to try a 'mad men' keywording... .I don't know if that works but it couldnt' hurt.

I'm with you, I'd hate to split them up, they were designed to be together, even though I think selling the dress alone would do better $$ wise. But I'm not about to get rich anytime soon selling on eBay. :) I wasn't sure about using opera coat, I was under the impression that all opera coats were long. Thank you Nicole!

Thank you Jonathan! I'm going to take it to my drycleaner and see how that works. I'll also look up the brocade metelasse and see if that fits too. Definitely has a "Mad Men" look. Nadine

HOW PRETTY!!!

What are the measurements?

I want.. not that I could afford what it is worth,,, what A nice score!! Please don't let it fit me!! lol

Also I would "expect" over 100 on ebay... closer to the $200 mark... but I had a couple real nice cocktail dresses that just did not do well.. and went right at 100... im not scoffing my nose at 100, but on the right day they would have been 300 dollar dresses,,, but such is ebay...

I would say make sure that you show the items in the auction seperately as well as together. Someone could very like one piece or the other but think its a little over the top to wear them together. make sure to show the dress alone, but then show the other piece over a different outfit. I know it may sound like overkill, but you would want the wearers and not just the collectors to come out and fight over this one.

I've got a 'crunchy' dress (quite apt description) but gold on black and only the dress and nowhere near as totally gorgeous as your ensemble, what a dream!

Keep us posted on what fabric it turns out to be, it'll help dentifying my one.

The dress isn't a plus size by any chance? I think I'll dream on....

Gorgeous set! I love the neckline on the coat, and the bustline on the dress...

I agree with Jonathan--I'd dry clean this to freshen it and try and get those stains out. Then sell it for a fixed price so you don't give it away!

"Vintage 60s Metallic Brocade Cocktail Dress & Evening Coat Ensemble"? (And add in "bombshell" on the dress if you've got room!)

I've been thinking about the price and have decided to put a fixed price. Thank you!

After resource I believe it is gold and silver brocade matelasse. Sorry, not a plus size. :(

just wanted to pipe in and say that is a really lovely set! congrats!! and good luck ~

btw, those huge collars remind me of Jackie O a bit, too, or Audrey Hepburn.

Audrey! That is a perfect description. I hope it does well myself. The $$ will be donated to a friend in crisis. Gotta give back!
