1960s "wanabe" hippie coat???

Was wondering if anyone was familiar with the label on this coat. I did some internet searching and turned up nothing that was similar to the coat. Was there a resurgence of 1960 styles in the '90's?

Coat is well made tapestry, with alpaca like trim and "furrier" (I think that's the correct term) hook closure. Label reads, "Running Wild - The Stampede Collection" Only other label is a care & fabric content label. Coat was made in the U.S.A. Fabric is a 57 cotton/43 poly blend.

Thanks for any clues you might be able to offer!

I recall a 60s revival in about 1993 sandwiched between grunge and girl-power -- and then several times throughout the 2000s but usually for spring with peasant tops and flared jeans, not so much for fall, so my guess would be 1993ish.

Thanks Carrie. It's a fun coat so I guess I'll put it in storage for another 10 years until it becomes "vintage" according to Etsy and by then it should be "trendy" once again.:drinking2:

Hi,

Well, I absolutely adore that coat, it has a lot going for it. I recall a revival of this style circa 2001-2002, after the movie "Almost Famous" (Fall 2000), which spurred a very brief revival in circa 1970-1972 hippe-esque fashion. Kate Hudson wore one similar in the movie. I had a coat like that in 1972, very similar and I wore it until it fell apart!

Just wondering...why wouldn't you want to sell it now, instead of waiting 10 years? I think it is a hot style that is desirable right now for cold weather. Very Boho...And the tapestry fabric adds a lot of punch. Feminine, romantic, Victorian meets hippie.

Anyway, I simply adore that coat.

I feel I've been through so many 70s revivals already :hysterical:. Yup, I remember this time too, early 2000s. Lotsa flimsy hippie/boho-style stuff at one of the inexpensive shops that I bought my clothes at at the time, and it was winter, and I thought to myself "who wears that in winter?!". Oh well, it would have looked great with this coat on top - and kept one warm too!

Thank you for your positive comments on the coat. Etsy requires that an item is at least 20 years old to list as vintage. I have sold some items on eBay so maybe I'll go that route.

While researching "boho" coats in preparation to list my "boho" coat on eBay I found the exact listing for $295. with a very interesting title... oh well.
"vintage 70s SHEEP Lamb CURLY Shaggy REAL FUR HIPPIE Tapestry Boho COAT Jacket"

Ah...the title is designed to incorporate every possible search word...so that someone might find the listing. eBay's search function is so screwed that it's hard to be seen.

Actually I'm struggling with how to list my coat on eBay, since the other seller (a top seller) is saying their coat (exact copy of mine) is vintage 1970s and we've discussed my coat is an early 2000 retro 1970s look. If the trim is "curly lamb" was it required to list this on a 1970s and/or 2000s labels? My label address coat fabric (cotton poly) and lining (acetate) but does not mention any "curly lamb".

if there was real fur on your coat and it is recent, I believe it would say so on your label.

I would ignore the other seller - do your own listing. I see many of the top rated vintage sellers making lots and lots of mistakes and selling lots of non-vintage as vintage - irritating but nothing can really be done. Do your listing to the best of your ability and indicate that you have researched and share why you think it is newer. When people compare the listings, they will see who has done their homework.

Thanks for your good advice Ms Grossmyer. I wish the coat had a Union Label or I had information on the maker's label that would give me something very definite to go on.
