I blogged about 1975 fashion today, but I found it difficult to find anything complimentary to say. I just find these styles to be unflattering, boring, and blah. What do you think? More images on my blog, and your comments are welcome.
There was VonFurstunberg..... Kenzo.... Betsey Johnson and Norma Kamali just coming inot their own.... Giorgio Sant'Angelo!!!!!!! There was alot of crazy street chic! Punk Rock!!!!! New Wave makng an appearance!!!!!!!!!
Do youhave the Book Cheap Chic.... Great great book on the 70's with chapter written by designers .....

I find that because of the poly I held a grudge towards the 70's.... As my husband said as a kid in the 70's when it would rain and he would get wet he would change his clothes and his legs would be blue.
I think the problem with the mid 70s was that it was a non-fashion conscious era. Older women were still dressing in either florid mumus or tailored Chanel like suits. Most younger women were in jeans and t-shirts. I recall that high fashion was scarce to be found but it did involve some new styles of dressing not seen before then such as free movement, comfort and easy style... The problem is most of it was in polyester but the truly good stuff in silk and wool was pretty nice! Check out the movie The Eyes of Laura Mars which was filmed in 1977 for some really great 1970s high fashion and of course reruns of the Mary Tyler Moore show for some great career gal looks. I still believe that every era has its good and bad sides.
I actually traveled back in time to the 70s today. Okay, actually it was an estate sale but EVERYTHING, the clothes, the furniture, the toys, were from the 70s...it was great! I got so much cool funky stuff.
I think it was a Fabulous RE-DO era.
The 70's copied and re-made the 30's in a very confusing/wonderful time of Fashion.
With Polly flying so was the style. Everything was Avaunt .
But still clinging to the depression era, Wide leg Slacks, Thin Long Bodies ,The Garcon'e(have to look up the spelling) But I Believe it Translate: "Little boy".
I think the shot is oh so 70's doing the OH-So 30's.
This Shoot is so Stylish & Fabulous.
1975 was BIG year for me...met hubby...left the states and school to return to uk..

each to their own
I think it was very fashion conscious period especially in the UK. The mid 70's saw innovation in cutting-edge street fashion being led by the UK and I think time will show that the seventies opened up to young talented designers and those who just wanted to express ideas through fashion. As we know, seventies styles have been a reinvented fashion statement over the past few seasons.
Paris, Milan and New York were doing their thing but fashion and music in the UK and to some extent in the US very much defined that period. Fashion reflecting punk and glam rock - Sex Pistols, David Bowie and Elton John, Vivienne Westwood/Malcolm McLaren and Zandra Rhodes.
I lived the 70s and loved the bohemian look. Also remember
a pair of midi length gauchos that I wore with knee high
slouch boots and a turtleneck - thought I was "all that and
more" hee.
Tee Hee!
In 1975 I was raiding my grandmothers closet and wearing her 1940s clothing. I think it was 1975 that my uncle gave me his WW11 bomber jacket which I wore all through college as my winter coat. The only new clothing I think I owned were a few danskin leotards and wrap skirts oh yes and a couple of India print shirts. Guess I'm no help am I?
I'm with Jonathan: every era has it's good and bad.
In 1975 I was ten years old and wearing bright floral halter neck polyester dresses, long enough to hit my chunky strappy sandals. Hand knitted woollen ponchos, thick corduroy smocks with viyella blouses and knee high socks. A line skirts in gabardine and cotton twill.
I had Marcia Brady hair: long, straight, blonde, parted in the middle. My father wouldn't let me wear jeans but all my friends lived in them.
