Hi there.
New here. Strange how some designs stick around and some dissappear entirely.... Haven't got a photo, so we'll have to go with a description. Wool/wool-like-mix. Dark navy or black. Thigh or knee length. Deep front wrap (full crossover front - each side fastens at opposite shoulder). High Roll Collar. Batwing sleeves ending in deep rolback cuffs. Fastened with two press studs on each shoulder. Set in pockets at front. Curved hem. Deep inverted pleat in back falling from small triangular yoke creating a wide swing shape. Last seen worn by teenage girls in a Norfolk market town around 79/80. I was there - lovely coat - love to have one again. Photos, pattern or actual item appreciated. Size 16 ideal, but any size for use as a pattern.

Thanks for listening

hi dee, and welcome!

thanks to your detailed description, i have a pretty good idea of what you're looking for. is the overall shape a swing coat? no waist, just falling straight from the shoulders?

i don't have one, but perhaps someone else here does, or will keep an eye peeled for one for you.

Hi

Yes a swing coat - no waist - falling straight from the shoulders. Only fastened at the shoulders. Theres a lot of similar-ish ideas about variously described as 'swing-coat' 'serape -coat' 'wrap-coat'. Issey Myake has done rather more elaborate draped cowl-neck, but on a similar theme. Even maybe seen something similar (but earlier?) in a Beatles film. But the particular version I'm after is definately 79/80 ish and probably catalogue company or chain store.

Thanks

Dee

I remember those coats. I found you an image of what I think is similar to what you're looking for, in case that helps. (the actual coat long ago sold on ebay)

Is that the kind of thing? - obviously without the added belt

Yes that's definately along the same theme. Lose the belt and roll the collar down and it''s getting pretty close.

Thanks

Dee
