1980's Aquascutum Cashmere/Wool Coat w/ Mink Collar

Hello, I have just inherited my grandfather's 1980's Aquascutum Coat (50% Cashmere and 50% Wool) with a black mink collar and I would like to know it's value. It has not been worn for almost 30 years (and hardly at that) and has been immaculately maintained. It is navy blue in colour. An Italian tailor mentioned that brand new, the coat would be worth $4,000-5,000. Obviously the coat is not new, but is in pristine condition. Any help on the value of this coat? Thank you!

Hi Adam,
It sounds like a wonderful coat. However, we do not offer assistance in determining value in the forums. May I suggest that you look for a similar coat on some of the larger selling venues, eBay, Etsy, Ruby Lane, for an idea of value.

Hi Adam,

Sounds like a nice coat. We are not able to give values here at the VFG. Your best bet would be to google 1980s Wool Aquascutum Coat and find others that have either sold or are on sale now and compare them to the one you have.
That should give you a fair ballpark figure for the one you have inherited.

You can look at today's Aquascutum coats on their website, the most expensive man's coat is £1,400, so around $2,300. But that's new from Aquascutum. Even if utterly pristine, the resale price you could get and the 'new' price are just not the same animal. Some things become more valuable over time because of rarity, but not an 80s coat I think.

I do find some people can be very quick to tell you what something 'should' be worth, but it doesn't mean much, unless they are saying, 'I sold one for that price', and you can access the same market that they can. If he says 'I will buy that from for you for $x' - now that means something!
