um... i am kinda stumped on these two.. first black one has no label. I thought 60s before putting on Mannie.

Now looking at it and the thick shoulder/pads 40s/50s? but I am unsure... know its not 60s it has the diamond underarms. The belt is attached to the back of the jacket sewn to it. I'm thinking early 50s still but maybe with the shape late 40s?

#2 WOWSERS i am so confused on this one.... its a saks 5th, has a seymour fox label too... all three labels are from this suit. It is wool but dyed to look kinda like denim. Not much give like normal wool so I'm not sure its wool very soft. The label on the resource places it in 70s? but I don't think its 70s at all... metal side zip in skirt, the other labels don't look 70s. Seymour closed in the 70s.... I am thinking 60s on this but it is pretty shapely, it is not pinned the sleeves are supposed to be cuffed otherwise they are too long and there is fabric for them to cuff..... um I know the label isn't an "add on" even though its falling out, its still from my big estate, we didn't add labels to her stuff she only bought designer and high end retail... so i am CONFUSED on this one!

Help please!:help:

Oh gee, that is strange. I have seen suits with two different labels on them - maker and boutique or fabric maker and clothing brand, but I don't think I have ever seen three...or maybe almost never!

Re your three-label suit, a 1954 newspaper article on the textiles of "Jacques Lesur, noted French textile designer," notes that:

"The importance of wool-and-silk in the fabric picture, too, is largely due to Lesur's pioneering. One of the prettiest of the Lesur collection is 'mouny' -- a thin wool suiting mixed with a 40 percent raw silk content which has a wonderful shimmering 'slub' finish.

Designer Seymour Fox features mouny in many of his new Spring suits in the shades of 'como blue' and a new brown called 'cafe creme.'"

As I typed this, I couldn't go back and see your labels or textile, so I don't know if what you have may be 'mouny,' but my intent was merely to give you a year when Fox and Lesur were linked.

The other thing I found was this 1953 ad that mentions that the store sells suits by Seymour Fox and while the one pictured in the ad is not a Seymour Fox suit, the features on the suit are very similar to yours: the curved bottom edge of the jacket, the curved detail where the pockets are, the general shape of the jacket, the cuffs, etc., so I think this, too, helps date your sharp suit.

I bought a Seymour Fox suit from Hollis during the yard sale. When it arrived, I was really impressed with the workmanship.

Yesterday in a conversation with Charles Kleibacker I asked him about Fox and whether he did "copies." According to Charles, no, not literally, but like most manufacturers during the period (early sixties), he was influenced by current French designs. Seymour Fox was well known for the quality of his construction.

I think coming from a couturier that is high praise. Claire

THANK YOU KINDLY especially on the article mentioning the fabric!

Its funny because I mentioned that its not pure wool at least I didnt think do it has different fibers in there I can tell and it has very little stretch which is uncommon for wool.... and super soft.. so... mouny,.,,, makes perfect sense as far as the texture and the "odd" fabric...

Wonderful thank you all... so are we safe to assume 50s then? or still in the 60s mark? The shape is more 50s and I guess the material is too...

Having looked through all those 1950s suit patterns for a jacket pattern for myself, I would definitely go 50s with the blue suit. I'm not always that good with suits either, but this one definitely says 50s to me. I also noticed that a lot of them hat cuffed sleeves like yours.

The other one is difficult to say, but with that shape of the jacket I'd go with 40s. Is that just me, or is the skirt relatively long?

Just want you to know...I see your blue Seymour Fox suit on EBay, but there is a problem with your template. None of your description or photos are showing on Firefox. Are you using an EBay approved template? They recently changed their requirements for templates to fit in the new listing page.

Hmmm thank you for letting me know? i am unsure I am using auctiva and they are ebay approved... Is it still not working? may just have been down, first I have heard of a problem with it...

THANK YOU seriously for letting me know.... I need a nap, jsut got back from church. I will search into it when I wake up... thank you agian for the heads up!

Yes, it is still a problem. It looks like there is an issue with Firefox and Safari users being able to see auction listings on EBay. Where your description should be, there is only a thin horizontal wedge with a tiny scroll bar. If you have Firefox on your computer, you should definitely take a look.

When I open your auctions in IE, it looks fine, but a lot of people use Firefox now, and as an EBay seller, you should be concerned. Check the Technical Issues discussion board on EBay. There are a couple of threads that reference this issue.

I can see Jennifer's listings fine but I could not see the details of listing supported by Activa yesterday that gave measurments and details about the garment. I could see the photos but the descriptive area was blank, I am using Internet Explorer 8. I have no clue why and do not sell on eBay - but I do buy - so just a heads up.

Thank you ladies... I am looking into it... I only use IE so never noticed an issue.. I will see if I can resolve the issues or find out when it will be resolved...

Its crazy cause I have alot of watchers on most of my suits already I cant even imagine how many htere would be if there wasnt an issue

thank you both once again for checking it for me!

Thank you once again ladies. and thank you MS... yes I use older listings when I know measurments are going to be similar so I dont have to retype as much but normaly the title that you put for ebay page goes in description..... I don't know why this one didnt change, the rest did... lol But I fixed it! thank you MS

As far as the listings not showing, from what I have been reading, its just some operating systems not the actual browsers and I don't know of a way to fix it? I have no idea what to do about it because I really like Auctiva and I have spent HOURS!!!! making my lisitings and templates and shipping tools and oh all the work and I am just not up to a change...

I really thank you all for taking the time to look, and for letting me know! Much apprecitaed, yall are all soooo nice!

Jennifer
