Hi Guys - I'm way out of my element with this one so I was hoping some of the gurus here could give me some tips and pointers. I am absolutely loving learning more and more about earlier clothing but I want to be sure before I clean, iron, set up the studio and do the good pictures.
So I recently acquired this dress, which I think is Edwardian (yes?) and something that would be considered more casual - outside weekend dress maybe? Am I completely wrong? I came to this conclusion by thinking about things I've seen in the past, books I've read, research I've done when I took into consideration that it was made of linen which makes me think warm weather....
There are well over 100 black buttons on it which I was told are Jet but which I think may actually be glass since they are so shiny. Sorry this round of pics isn't great - they have a star pattern on them though.
The piece is in EXCELLENT condition and need a bit of work to the back of the neck to get the crocheted filet lace to lay properly and there are one or two VERY small stains. No rips or tears that I see but I also haven't checked every seam.
Is/was this a good find? Are pieces like this collectible?
I'm sorry I'm such a dunce when it comes to this era.
Thanks in advance for everyone's help!
P.S. Please excuse the mess in my studio!!!
P.P.S. My mannequin is blushing right now as her ample bosom just could not be squeezed into the dress! LOLOL!!!!
