24K Gold Panties, Bra by Vanity Fair

Blogger Glamoursurf suggested I stop in here for more information on an exciting set I have. From Vanity Fair's 1950's Conversation Pieces high-end line, the bra/panty set is accompanied by a VF paper card noting, in part, "This is a luxury fabric. The surface is pure, soft 24K gold." It seems the 'gold' was applied to Nylon Tricot. I guess. Pieces have the gold embroidered VF tag.

I am looking for any additional information on the pieces or fabric. The best I found was Glamoursurf's blog featuring a swimsuit with possibly similar fabric.

Other than a close up of the fabric, items appear more flat gold in color in the photos. These pieces absolutely shimmer. I think it is okay that I am also posting a link to a photobucket album with all of the photos I've taken, including the paper info and fabric closeups.

I wouldn't mind suggestions on presentation for possible selling, as well. I do not have a mannequin, and this would not work on my vintage dress form, of course.

Thanks for any info or suggestions.

(Great site! I haven't been here in years, and then I only searched labels.)

Really stunning and unusual. I can't help with info on the set, but would suggest you add burlesque as a key word.

Without a mannequin I think the best bet would be to lay it flat on a plain flat surface, white board for instance, and photograph from directly above. This site has some great tips on flat clothes photography. You of course may not have all the lighting and camera gear he's suggesting (I don't either), but scroll down to the presentation tips. If you can shoot outside on a day with light white cloud cover, or in the shade on a bright sunny day, that'll work for lighting.

I think in addition to Ruth's lay-it-flat shot, it might be nice to have a styled shot with kind of still life feel, if you have access to a 'boudoir' scene or shabby chic dressing table for example.. drape the items casually, padding out the bra cups to show the classic vintage sillhouette :) If you can get a sort of romantic Parisienne feel it would look great!

And to put that into perspective, the online Inflation Calculator says....What cost $99.95 in 1955 would cost $804.54 in 2010.

There is a math=.-a-maniac in every crowd. lol!

Thank you for that great link, vertugade. ,

I will try to act on the suggestions above. I really appreciate the help. I'm so excited about the set and hope I can do it justice.
