30\'s Embroidered Coat

I bought this coat from a small vintage boutique. I was told that it is from the 1930's. It has gorgeous embroidery on it, that looks quite art deco. It is also lined with silk(Im no expert on fabrics so this is something I should really double check.) It is in pretty good condition, considering its age although it does have two small moth holes along with a little bit of discolouring.
Im hoping that someone could tell me a bit about this and a price range. I wont be putting it on Ebay, but selling it in Babylon Mall.

Thank you,

I really have no idea. Is there any way of telling?
When I found it my first thought was that it should be in a museum. It will be hard giving it up.

Here is a close up of some of the embroidery(I warn you I havent resized the picture yet)

WOW, stunning. I'm not an expert in anything and I know very little from this period. But I do have
a 1920s machine embroidered bedspread and you can tell from the back if it has been hand done or machine done. The spread is currently on loan; so I can't get a pic for you, but I'm sure someone will come along with more experience.

my thought was the same try and look underneath, tho not lawyas possible...
its stunning...if you dont wnat the money and want a mention in en exhibition when you are dead and gone...donate it....but if selling l would give that to a reputable auction house that has annual costume sales..

I had a jacket last year (??) with extremely similar embroidery. It was also estimated to be 1930's, if I recall. Mine was embroidered ALL over on black wool with a white silk lining. If I remember correctly, it had a couple wear spots on the back of the color, but otherwise was in very good condition.

It sold on ebay (January of 05 or 04) for $433.

Obviously, not exactly the same in design... but I thought I'd post it just in case it's useful!

It's quite lovely. It certainly is the early 30s silhouhette and that does look like polychrome chainsticth embroidery. If you can get a peek at the back side somewhere, or loosen a lining stitch or two , it will tell you if it's hand done. And the price should reflect that.

Thank you for your opinions. I will definitely consider donating it or not selling it at all. The lining is not attached at the bottom of the coat so I was able to get under. Here is a picture and the reverse side.:)

Omigosh--your coat is simply gorgeous! Beautiful. The colors, the pattern, the intricacy of the embroidery work are amazing.

This might be one you may want to think about putting up on eBay, as it seems to me it's one of those items that just might fetch more there than anyplace else. But wherever you sell it, I would put a pretty (as in "high") price on it!
