30s or 40s? National Recovery Board Suit and Coat label ladies wool suit

Hi! I found this beautiful nearly perfect ladies suit at my local thrift store. I am not sure what the fabric is but could be wool? It has beautiful darting and seams in the jacket, a silk lining, and has a tag from the National Recovery Board of Suit and Coat Industry with the back having the HXG Consumer Protection label. The buttons are mainly covered in the fabric, but the top button has a heart. Could this have been bought or made for someone’s wedding? It would have been bought in a boutique or department store correct? Anything detailing more about the style, fabric, date is appreciated. Thanks so much!

it is a lovely suit, i agree 40s.

The button is, most likely, a replacement since (in part) the others are all covered buttons. We've had buttons similar to the top one that we acquired from a fabric store back in the late 90s. Even with the top button not matching the others, the suit is gorgeous.

Good to know about the replacement button at the top! That makes sense since it’s different to the others.

Gorgeous suit, I love the detailing. I agree, the style looks 40s to me too.

There's some info on the VFG resource that advises the National Recovery Board Coat and Suit Industry was "set up to ensure garments were made in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards... and the label was used from 1936-1972"

There are some examples of consumer protection labels below, with a label from a 1940s suit which is very like yours.
