I can see where you're coming from with that. It's the free edge of the top part of the short sleeve top that is remniscent of the 30's. Such a stumper. Maybe it's a cusper. I am still feeling more of a 40's vibe though, but I am out of my element in the 1930's so who knows. I will be very interested to see what the others think.

It is such a gorgeous set though and I imagine you will do quite well with it!! I also have to tell you that I just love your website. It is so well put together and you have very lovely, well presented items.

Stunning. I can see the '30's also. If it were early '40's the skirt would probably be much shorter. I see a real Deco influence, as well.

Sears' "Fashions of the Thirties" has belted knit sets with long, flared skirts just like yours, 1933, 1936, and 1938. The '33 and '36 sets how a lot of pretty dramatic bodice interest (big bows, jabot-like frills, applied rosettes, etc), similar to the the draped yoke in your second set; the '38 sets have much more restrained detail there.

Also, the lengths go up! The '33 sets say the lengths are 48" (for all sizes, I guess), in the '38 sets, the lengths are given as ranging from 45" (for a size with 32" bust) to 47" (for a size with 40" bust).

I'm barely acquainted with this decade, but these sets sure look 30s to me--probably mid to later, unless the lengths are longer than they look in the pics...

As I said before, for me too the skirt (and its length) says 30s. The short-sleeved sweater looks more 30s too, but I checked one of my books and found long-sleeved sweaters that were longer and worn with belts in 30s photos too. I'll stay with 30s ;) . Couldn't find anything comparable for the 40s.

Thanks guys. I set it up as coming soon in my 30s section but wanted to be sure! Isn't it gorgeous? I love brown and blue together. There's a dress too in the same knit, different colors, but it has some spots I need to work on.

Thanks again! Ang

Absolutely gorgeous set! :o

Another late vote for the 30s. I've done three years of research on the interwar period (20s-30s) and its bang on!

Well there ya go. 1930s is the consensus. I really need to branch out. I've been married to the New Look era for so long I'm really limited in certain knowledge in anything WWII and before. Seems that those Sears catalogs are pillars of info and I plan to start my collection soon!!
