Is this 50's, 40's ? :help:

polished? heavily starched? cotton (has a tiny bit of sheen) striped rose floral, midriff cutout, very wide straps, full length, full skirt, brass zipper (possible replacement?) and hook & eyes up the back, pinked seams, New York Creation Label, NY Dress Institute, #B8109977 & i think a 1

any and all help appreciated!! the label resource doesn't say how long they used this label & my google search is mostly turning up hats;0)

What a pretty one! I would say it is later 40s, something one would have taken to the resort for a formal dance (like in Dirty Dancing only earlier)

thanks hatfeathers,

i was just wondering exactly where one might have worn such a dress, with it's mix of casual/formal :) Oh, to have lived back then!

I think this is early 50's. Glazed chintz floral and botanical prints were very popular. Those 'cap' like sleeves are a feature at this part of the decade. I can see though why the fitted bodice and cut-out panel could be reminiscent of a 40's 'look.'

I've come across a reference to the NY Dress Institute still being around in 1958.
