or at least it would be hourglass on somebody curvier than me!
Again, the straps have been altered, there are little loops at the top of the bust for strap hooks however there are none on the end of the side straps and I believe it has been worn strapless with these ties across the back. I'm not sure if originally there was another detachable halter next strap that had the missing hooks. The side ones are only just long to use as I had them in the picture, pinned to the top of the front but the direction they are sewn on would suggest this could have been the original design.
It has stiff card like bra cups that are folded down in the last picture and 'pop' out for your very own Marilyn Monroe shape! My inital thought was 50's but the print has that sketchy look I've seen on 40's fabric before and the use of shirring is similar to a fair few 40's swimsuits too, what do you think?

Lol I live the furthest distance possible from the beach in England! But it is probably my favourite, my sister immediately wanted this one too but I said no!

Did you notice the clever seaming around the bum? up-side-down "heart" wouldn't you say? I've seen a lot of these wonderful shirred cotton material pin-up suits lately. Rose Marie Reed etc. AND THEY ARE NOT CHEAP! Mostly over the 200 mark and that is on eBay.

HOT OF THE PRESS .. I just goolged Martin White and there are B/W video shoots of girls sailing in Martin White swimsuits on the website British Pathe. dated to the 1940's And at another site a celebrity wearing a Martin White suit.. But yours still looks a little more 50's, they were still more modest in the 40's and covered tops of thighs.

Yes I love the cut of the pattern on the bum, very flattering but a devil to get in because of that 1" fabric on the back without any elastic in it! you weren't allowed to have much bum that's for sure!
Have a look at the two 30's ones I posted a the same time; I wouldn't say they were any more modest!
