40s/50s Underdress

Has anyone ever come across one of those New Look under-dresses that were almost a fusion between a crinoline and a corselette? Someday, I would love to own one! To me, they are almost as beautiful as the dress worn on top. If I had one, I might wear it all by itself :).

Thanks!

I haven't - but I'd love to! Incidentally, I just received a 1948 French fashion magazine, and it shows two of these, and I must admit they are utterly amazing I think:

They're just the perfect shape for those New Look dresses that the magazine is full with! It says: "Black faille for the day. White satin for the evening".

thank you everyone for the responses! Unfortunately, the underdress pictured is not mine, but one that is housed in the MET archives. If only it really were mine!

No this was at least a year ago! A fellow seller had it at a vintage market. I'm sure she's sold it by now. She wasn't selling it sooo cheap for me to have made a worthwhile profit on it, and it didn't fit me, so I passed.

Gayle- Very true, perhaps one day I will have the good fortune of finding one :)
Ruth- Oh, I hate the regret of not buying a great piece!
Mary Jane- That is stunning, I love it!
