40\'s Dress....Beaded Detail. A Heart w/?

That about sums it up. Think during or post war? I cant quite tell what this symbol is (if its anything). Also, it appears to have like a coiled metal in the center, any special term for that? Lots pics next, thanks!! Ang

it looks like some ww2 insignia..have you googled images? or checked out imperial war museum insignia? heart but what with?? very intriguing!! reminds me of medals and ribbon..red white and blue of course...
l keep thinking instead of a purple heart a red/white/blue heart from usa??

do you have the designer/house? what country is it from>??

if you look at the purple heart it is kinda similar..

Ooh, I like Sara's theory... (the resemblance is especially strong on the capelet, which has those 2 very ribbon like accents on either side).

Certainly a patriotic thing going on with it...

It's wonderful!

The beading is simular to some the beaded necklaces of the time. Also Beaded flowers were made into pins made popular by Hatie Carnegie. Flower beading also was making a comeback in the 40's.... Could have been added....

Love the dress! It's funny, I didn't even see the heart at first. My first impression was that it looked like a cute little bug - like a lady bug or something. I think a patriotic heart would be a better selling point, though. Either way, it's a wonderful piece!

P.S. I just bought a headless white mannequin off ebay, is that where you got yours? If so, I'm even more excited about getting it because it really shows off your dress nicely!

Its definately post war because of the length of the skirt, also the cut of the sleeves. However, I have seen a lot of postwar patriotic symbolism, so it seems the tribute goes on, after the war is over. It looks 1948ish to me

Thanks guys! Carrie, I did get mine on eBay but from someone who had had a shop & was getting rid of it, used, it was pretty cheap. But the same one is still available and decently priced.....I really like her, I dont have to worry about hair!

It looks like an angel to me. Black body, white wings, red hair/halo. I just don't see a heart.

I do like it, though. Really pretty dress!
