Hi!
I see late 1930s cusper house dress/dressing gown. (1938-40ish)
Very pretty! Is it rayon?
That particular zipper was produced by Talon mid/late 30s. The stamped mark changed slightly in 1939 (talon name was stamped twice) so that zipper was most likely manufactured by 1938, but many clothing makers and home sewers would still be using that style zipper for a bit after 38 as they used the supply they already had. A zipper can help aide with a rough idea of age, but cannot pin down a date exactly.
:D
Thanks so much for your reply, Vivianbelle. I'm not very good at determining fabric type but it feels like a silky rayon to me. With the zip going all the way down to the knee area, I wondered if this were a house dress! To me, however, it's pretty enough to wear out and about. I just wish it fit me.
donnah, that is beautiful! It looks to be in wonderful condition. And I agree with Melanie as to late 30s/early 40s. And although probably meant as a dressing gown, with that fabric and style, I see no reason it could not be worn as a regular dress! (After all, we see 30's & 40's nightgowns being worn as/sold as dresses....)
Hi! Definitely 30s! Those gathered shoulders are lovely and very 30s and the sunray stopbox on the zipper is very 30s, too (we've got millions of sunray patterns in garden gates and frontdoors in 1930s houses here in Dublin and I'm slightly obsessed with them). I've got two pieces with these same zippers myself...they are both very small and when I wear the cream top I have to be careful not to eat to big a dinner ;-)
, I'm looking at the photos and thinking, "Hey, I had a garment just like that some time ago". Then I noticed that this was MY post from 3 years ago! It IS a beautiful gown.
