40s or 50s? Red Velvet Ball Gown

Hi everyone! I've been a little stumped on this one and Viviene (Born Too Late) suggested I come over here to you fine ladies and see what you thought.

Some people have thought 40s, some 50s - is it perhaps right on the edge? It's heavy red velvet, full length, gathered at the waist, strapless with illusion netting at the top, and then has a bolero jacket with the most interesting shelf-like bust. It also has a braided piece that I think might go around the neck or in the hair. No labels or anything.

Wow! That is gorgeous! My first thought was late 40's as well. I would definitely put 40's/50's in the title to get the most hits. What is the length? It almost has the "new look" to it but I can't tell for sure.

I'm thinking late 40s too with that fitted bodice, slightly dropped
waist and full skirt. The treatment of the bolero looks late 40s or
very early 50s to me. Cusper?

It is absolutely stunning regardless of when it was made!

Thanks everyone! It's about floor length, my manni Lily is very tall. It's definitely gorgeous, and the greatest thing about it is there isn't a thing wrong with it!

The worst thing about it is it has a 24" waist, which means in this lifetime, I probably will not be able to get into it. :sniff: 24" was long and far ago!
