40s shirt , robe, something else?

Hello!

Love this piece but I'm really not quite sure what it is. Blouse, top of a pj set? Perhaps went with a dress? Any ideas? It's a silky, slippery type of rayon material.

I can't be sure off the one photo, but looks that it may have been part of a lounge set. There may have been pants or a skirt to go with it at one point.

Agree: it could be part of a set or another idea, I've seen a few similar dressing gowns and house coats so I wonder if yours has been shortened at some point? Does the hem look original?

Thanks! The hem does look original. I will have to keep my eye out for a pair of 40s black leisure pants (anyone have any?) I will keep it around if I can find some.

I recently bought a set of early 50s striped rayon "TV Pajamas" from Jonathan/kickshaw (a VFG member here), and the silhouette of the top is very similar to yours! (The bottoms were of the same, striped fabric).
