These came with several dresses from the 40s so I am assuming that is their era. Both are checked (would you say gingham?) and home crafted.

No deep hems because of shortage of fabric, I guess. <br><br><img src=http://image.inkfrog.com/pix/magnolia05/40sredgingham6.jpg><br><br>Now, the next one is unfinished. Makes you wonder why she never finished it?? It is a brown check with leaf embroidery (how would you describe?<br><br><img src=http://image.inkfrog.com/pix/magnolia05/40sbrowngingham3.jpg><img src=http://image.inkfrog.com/pix/magnolia05/40sbrowngingham.jpg><br><br><img src=http://image.inkfrog.com/pix/magnolia05/40sbrowngingham5.jpg><br><br><img src=http://image.inkfrog.com/pix/magnolia05/40sbrowngingham6.jpg><br><br>Nice thing about it, I picked up some seam tape and a vintage metal zipper, so it would be easy to finish.<br><br><img src=http://image.inkfrog.com/pix/magnolia05/40sbrowngingham8.jpg><br><br>So, what do you think? How should I promote these and am I correct on the dates? Thanks.

That first one screams picnics and pigtails!
I see 40s/50s on both.

That bottom one is nice, once you finish it up it should be a goodie....looks like a thin crinoline would give it even more pop. I'd call it "falling leaves autum dress" and show it with a cardigan over it for an outfit suggestion.

Yummy!

What a good idea, Jenn! That is a wonderful title.

Someone said the first one looked liked Dorothy in Wizard of Oz. What do you think? That movie was in 1939.

Keep in mind, though, fashion influences moved slower back then. Although Wizard came out in '39, it may not have been seen by people until well in to '40 or later. We only had one movie theater here in my tiny town (Granny took tickets!).

So, things like Dorothy's gingham or Scarlett O'Hara's picture hat (both '39) would have been influential well into the 4os.

You are right on that one, too! I know fashion styles didn't reach my little hometown until about two or three years after the fact.:(
