50s Evening gown, and a Global label

Hi Forum,

I recently acquired a collection of glorious dresses in a job lot (you know the feeling when you're unwrapping a bundle of gloriousness that came in the morning post..), and have a few questions about two of the items.
*There are more more more of my questions and info inbetween the images*

First, this stunning heavy satin full length dress with a kind of rose+roseprint jacquard thing goin on, central box pleat to the front and amazing pleating to the back of the skirt from the v-dropped waist point... The zip has unfortunately been replaced with a nylon one (as had most of the dresses in the lot, I assume they had been someone's projects), but would y'all date as '50s/early '50s? It comes with an epic shawl that finishes almost in line with the dress, and matching handbag.

Second, this eye-poppingly glitsy number (that's gold and lime green thread you see before you), with the Global label- anyone come accross it before? There's an example on ebay US right now but other than that Google hasn't yielded much..

The previous owner was under the impresseion that it was a. very rare, and b. made in Paris- despite the "made in the british Crown Colony of Hong Kong".. I don't know about the very rare, it's certainly very very nice! Would the 'made in..' suggest it was for the export market, 60s stylie? Or designed in Paris and the construction 'outsourced' ..?

Thanks!

Ava, I've had a few things with the Global label - Hong Kong made garments were popular amongst tourists in the '60s here and we see a lot of them. The ones I've had were of a good quality, but then so are the other labels I've seen from this time/location so I don't think it's particularly special. I don't even think it has anything to do with Paris - many garments at this time fake an association with a glamourous location and if it did have something to do with Paris (or France) I'd expect it to be in French, not English.

Your first dress is beautiful quality but I think it's 1960s, probably made in Asia too. My grandmother had dresses like that made up when she went on holiday - it would help if you showed the bag.

Your second dress is '60s too.

Ah I see, I have to say I'm not familiar with 60s evening gowny type garments, I mainly get a younger day/partae wear style through my door! It's soo gorgeous though <3

And the Global dress.. I like that the label liiies!

Actually I might email the lady I got these beauties from and as if she knows any history, I always like a bit of history..
