Hello again everyone,

I'm not sure how to describe the shape/style of this bag, can anyone offer suggestions? Soft-sided frame bag is as far as i've got, maybe that's enough, but I wondered if there was some term I didn't know.

Also, the pearlised plastic bits on the clasp, would they be lucite? Any help on describing the clasp too would be much appreciated.

Thanks if anyone can help, I'm going blank on this one.

Ruth

Wow thanks for that term kiss-lock clasp, I didn't know it, and your half-moon description is great. That's really helpful.

The bag though is leather - not particularly squishy. I stuffed it slightly for the photos to pad it out a bit, otherwise it looked very flat.

I'm thinking of calling the colour muted lilac. It's almost grey, but not quite.

Here's a couple more shots, in case anyone's interested!

I see that there's a tag in there. Can you get a close up pic of it?

Yes I have pic of the tag. It's James Florsheim of London, which I'm connecting with a shop called Florsheim of London (ad here), a Regent Street store which appears to have been around since 1935.

Oh and smokey grey, yes that's good. It does definitely have lilac tones as well. perhaps I'll go with smokey lilac grey or something like that!

Thanks very much for everyone's input! I can really work up my description now. It'll be going on ebay sometime soon.

Glad you like the colour Joules. Interestingly the 50s Florsheim shoes I posted about a couple of weeks back are lined in the same colour.

I really like this bag, and just wanted to say that I had a Jane Shilton bag with a similar "reverse kiss clasp" a couple years ago. Never had seen that particular construction on a clasp--most of mine have been traditional kiss clasps. So, I'm wondering if this was something that was invented by or unique to British manufacturers/designers? And I think it's early to mid 50s, not later.... FWIW.

Oh, I definitely agree with Mary that taupe can have purply-lavendar tones. I often have to ask my husband when I get a similar color (he's the artistic one) whether it's tan, taupe, or lavender/purple....

This has now been listed on UK ebay as a Buy-It-Now. Joules you wanted to know when it was listed, so I hope it's okay to put the ebay number - 200510293292 - I know I'm not supposed to post links. If not please edit this post!

Thanks again for everyone's help.

Ruth
