A lovely bright pink evening gown - I thought it was 50s, but am now wondering if it is "80s doing 50s" - I think it is the back waist bow that is throwing me! No label, the fabric is like a tulle/chiffon, fully lined and there is a net underskirt fitted too. Colour shows best in the bodice shots. Any help appreciated!

there are elements both pushing me one way and the other. Aren't i a big help? Was this a bridesmaid dress at one time perhaps (not meaning in a bad way). I am leaning towards later, but i am definitely not an authority and i am probably dead wrong). Its that ruched bodice i remember so well from the 80s that was on every single homecoming/prom. but that may not mean anything.

Funnily enough, it was the ruching - and the collar effect and net underskirt - that made me think 50s................then the bow and the rose thing brought in '80s doing 50s'.

Hadn't thought of it as a bridesmaid dress - but I guess it could have been.

I had a bright blue dress for homecoming...strapless with a completely ruched bodice circa 1987/88. The bow on the behind made me think 80s, however, the bows, etc were "floppier" in the 80s. Not like the little perfectly tailored bows one sees on 60s minidresses. So the lack of bow floppiness was not making me definitive on the 80s.

Here's is my other crazy thought...the only real way this dress would have been this length in the 80s with this skirt style is if it were a bridesmaid or some type of thing like that. Otherwise, it would have been much shorter or more likely tea length. Unless it is not a bridesmaid, I would lean towards it being earlier. I just wanted to explain my bridesmaid reasoning

Margaret, I'm pretty sure this is late 50s. Like you that ruched bodice made me think 50s right away, as did the collar. Is the zipper metal?

If the zipper is nylon, it's 80s. The CB zipper placement is much more 80s than 50s.

If it's metal , it could be either.

The collar, color and butt bow are also making me lean toward 80s.

I'm seeing 80's bridesmaid doing 50s. For some reason it just isn't saying 'I am definately from the 50s'. I would definately not call it 80s prom. I don't think there were any long 80s prom dresses! lol But I do have quite a few 80s dresses with the built in layers of slips, netting, crinoline etc. Because of the length I have to go with 80s wedding party dress.

Thanks Hollis and all - 80s doing 50s-ish evening/prom/bridesmaid/ but not your average shopping-at-Tesco/dress! ;)

Absolutely Margaret....not your typical. In fact if a gal wore it unless you were really versed in such things, you would not have people noticing right away she was wearing an 80s dress...she would just look unique.

What is Tesco? Is it like Tello's here? Extremely trendy clothing not meant to really wear multiple times? Or am i missing my metaphor...

Tesco is a supermarket. :) I have a bizarre (yet actually quite common) phobia of supermarkets which my friend Emily tries to cure me of by insisting we all go in our most outragous 60s gear and freak everyone out running up and down the aisles looking like something out of Austin Powers. It works too. :)

So there are some weird things people wear to Tesco, but this isn't one of them... unless you suddenly run out of milk at the wedding reception and send a bridesmaid shopping! LOL!

OK - so now it's a "80s doing 50s-ish evening/prom/bridesmaid/ but not your average shopping-at-Tesco/MILKMAIDS dress"
