yep, agree it's more 70s influenced than 50s, but, it could in fact be from the 80s and 90s when retro restaurant/diners were the rage.

at The Hard Rock Cafe (the first one opened in 1971), we wore white uniforms that looked like vintage waitress/nurse outfits, with a white apron, and even a little white headband/hat. (ours were all white)

There were also restaurants that when certain songs came on, the servers jumped on the bar and/or counter-tops and would dance a routine: I don't recall the name of the restaurant, but their uniforms were diner-looking as well. That was in the late 80s/early 90s.

yours is cute! love the gingham look buttons!

Could you show the belt buckle please? this may help with dating. Also Baumwolle is German, so you are likely to be looking for a German manufacturer. The care symbols look like the earlier sort and there is no tumble dry symbol present (added in 1985) so I do think this is 1970s or perhaps early 80s as Mary suggests.

I see early '70s by the collar but there were a lot of uniforms around worn by women in many occupations up to the early '80s. I had a number of jobs in the early '80s where I wore similar uniforms but without the gingham. I wore them in hospitality jobs: waitressing, cooking, housekeeping. The collar does make me think yours is at the earlier end of the time period though.

thanks everyone, helpful as always. it's having a much needed soak this morning but before going in, I snapped some belt pics and here they are
