60\'s/70\'s Pierre Cardin \"Bullseye\" Jumper

Hello Everyone-

I am new to the Vintage Fashion Guild and these forums! My name is Elissa, and I run Calico, a shop that sells vintage at our New Bedford, MA storefront and online.

I also sell on eBay, and have recently posted this AMAZING Pierre Cardin jumper that I believe dates between 1967-70. A couple friends who are part of the VFG recommended that I post here to get some exposure and feedback on this really remarkable find!

The jumper is cream wool with patent leather suspender-straps and bullseye center. This item still has its original hangtag, and has probably never been worn. I made a post about it at eBay's Vintage Clothing & Accessories forum, and one of the very knowledgeable dealers there found a similar dress that is now in the Kyoto Costume Institute of Japan (dated 1970):

Check out my eBay listing here for more info!

I would appreciate any feedback/advice on this piece!

Cheers!
Elissa

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING......! No insights to add to your excellent description; I think museum-worthy and iconic are perfectly appropriate descriptions. What a treat to see such a fabulous item....

Hi from Winthrop! Lucky find! Your photos are beautiful, and I think it is great that you showed the jumper on a dressform as well as a live model.

This is a very important piece in 60s fashion history, and I know it will fly high - probably higher than your expectations. Best of luck.

Outrageously wonderful! This was really cutting-edge in its day, and would have been something shown on the runway at season-preview shows! You should reap a small fortune on it.

In addition to how you are currently showing it, I would love to see this jumper shown on your model with a period-appropriate top!

Good lord. That's a find.

Don't understand the "jumper term.' This is a Pierre Cardin Bull's-Eye Halter Skirt. 1960's.

In 2004 a similar one was sold for Sold for $3,585.

Heavy black wool twill, the mini A-line skirt with only a center back seam, crisscross suspenders buttoned onto waistline and hooking behind neck, bull's-eye of black self fabric and white vinyl applique at the X, size 4/6, labeled: Pierre Cardin - Paris/New York.

This is from the 1998 Sotheby's Nothing to Wear sale. The jumper (along with another from Courreges) brought $2587. They had it dated 1968-1970.

Lizzie, that's exactly the sort of top I pictured this with, even before I saw your picture! A long, very skinny, very fitted sweater or bodysuit.

Actually, back in '69, they may very well have also shown this to wear as topless (!), but, uh, I think that would "difficult" (to say the least) to show!!!!

OMG!

Special thanks to fuzzylizzie for that exact duplicate picture! YAY! I wanted to put it with a white turtleneck, but I only had black! And I just wanted to get it online, so... hopefully, the dressform pics will do!

Thanks for all your responses; I am so excited that this might go really high! 3,000 dollars?! I sort of wish I could change the description to halter dress, but I can't because it's been bid on...

I think you can still amend the description by adding to it, so you could make a notation as to the terminology! And if you can upload a copy of Lizzie's photo to photobucket or other hosting service, you can add it into your description addendum by putting the html coding into the copy!

Not identical, Lizzie's has the bullseye at the umbilicus, yours at the upper chest
