60\'s Corduroy Coat search

My mother had a wonderful fur (pile) lined corduroy coat in the 1960's and I have been looking for one ever since with little luck.

To help with my search, I was wondering if anyone could help me identify the coat maker or offer tips on having sighted one in any vintage forums or stores.

It had a huge shawl type collar which almost wrapped around the shoulders and would almost act as a hood (not a split hood type) when the collar was turned up, it was double breasted of wide wale cord, had a belt, I believe that buttoned to the coat on the sides and had a button tab around collar bone height to help hold the shawl collar in place when the collar was up. The design was similar to the old double breasted raccoon coats of earlier times.

Her's was a lovely rust or deep red color with a white or very light color plush pile lining, although I remember seeing them also in green and I believe a really nice camel color when comparing others to her's. Any color found would do.

Any help with tracking down a piece of memory lane would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

at the risk of sounding old.. i remember those well! they also had a similar style where the shawl collar had a zipper, so when you wore it up as a hood, it zipped closed.

keep checking ebay, and try KW for 60s shawl collar.. i'd check jacket as well as coat, as some sellers list either way for same items.

with summer coming tho, you probably wont have much luck till fall, so try web sites or like Babylon mall.

will keep an eye out for you tho!

I just wanted to say thank you very much. I have not had much luck in discovering the make or style of the coat, but I did see that Vivian Vance's estate is selling a corduroy coat of the same style, but in a different color.

Thank you again for your suggestion and help!

pretty sure JC Penneys produced a line of cordoroy car coats with faux fur linings; some zipped in, others were stitched in. Also believe McGregor had them, too, but theirs would have been for men or boys.

oh, and yes, a photo would be helpful! :camera:
