60s or 70s? Smoking Coat or Sport Coat? Pattern description?

Is it from the 60s or the 70s? Is it a sports coat? How would you describe the pattern?

It is definitely polyester, partially lined inside, two buttons that appear to be bone, no labels or tags anywhere.

Thanks,

I was thinking more dinner jackety - with a ruffly shirt, wide black velvet bow tie and black velvet trousers - c. 1970-72 Dandy prom or best man type look. Maybe lounge lizard - if he had a fu-manchu moustache and afro. The pattern is a Renaissance cross - goes along with all that Mediterranean furniture of the period...

Both of those looks Jonathan mentions are distinct possibilities, but the lounge lizard is highly likely.

Herb Tarlek, that's hilarious Barbara! Totally.

I usually think tuxedo for dinner jacket, but I know the term is used sometimes in a broader way, as here.
I nearly wrote dinner jacket, but isn't that the UK term?

Ohhhh as you can see, I have some very basic photos... but I am so dressing my model like that for new pics... ruffled shirt, pointy boots... now I have to go find some vintage velvet pants :P hahaha

Yes I would definitely put it at very late 60s-early 70s, glam evening attire. It reminds me of an evening dress I own in terms of the print, fabric and Renaissance crosses ( Here's a pic http://hansonleatherby.wordpress.co...intage-book-launch-portraits/#jp-carousel-880 ) which is of that era.
OMG that is awesome... yes very close pattern. I just got 2 mens suits that are of this time period but western wear. One is copper shark skin ish (itll be posted with lots of questions once it is returned from the cleaners and the other is black poly with white trimmed lapels... I am expanding on my mens wear *smile* thank you so much!
