70s Fur Trimmed Coat. What kind of fur?

Hi everyone, found this coat and was wondering if you had any information on it. Dating? I think it's 70s for the sole fact that the ILGWU tag inside matches the one in the resource guide for 70s. But obviously, not too sure.

Also, what kind of fur is this? There are no tags saying on the inside. Just figured that the coat is wool but not sure about the fur.

Help, please!

Thanks beforehand!

This is the label it has:

I didn't even know there was a fur resource! Well I just went through it but I don't think I'm too good at figuring it out. The fur is VERY soft so if mink it typically not then it might be rabbit. I've felt rabbit before and it was soft like this.

Is it common for any fur to be dyed like mink/another fur?

Oh yes, furs are dyed to look like all kinds of things, especially cheapish furs like rabbit (coney) and fox.

I agree with '60s for your coat, I would put it as early to mid '60s, so considering your label, I think it's probably around '63-66.

As a side note about the ILGWU labels: has anyone else noticed that although they're the "International Ladies Garment Workers Union", they're clearly American only labels? In fact the LR tells us in the '70s they were used to promote buying American! I'm surprised they didn't just call them the "American Ladies Garment Workers Union" or some such.

Haha! I never even thought of that but yes, that's very curious. It should be ALGWU. So true now that you mention it.

And thanks for the tip about the fur, Nicole. I guess it's rabbit dyed like mink? Either way, it's very soft.
