Good Day Ladies,

I ADDED A BETTER PHOTO OF THE LABEL BELOW.

Now can anybody make out the word above Rayon? It's Act__

Here's a better closeup of label:

Goes to this dress I purchased in 1973:

The dress is part rayon and part "Ac___".
I'm listing it on Etsy and must get the materials correct.

Once again - many, many thanks for your help.

Hey Linn,

Thanks for responding so quickly. What can be read in natural light under a magnifying glass is:

67% Act_
23% Rayon.

I considered Acetate but it didn't really fit in with the letters that can be read on the label unless someone abbreviated Acetate?

The old hand-written fabric listing doesn't show at all on photos. I'll keep trying to get a better shot, but meanwhile, is it possible the writer simply abbreviated? That would make sense but did they do that??

Thank you.

Now this is interesting. Another online dictionary definition came up as follows:

acton [ˈæktən]
n (in medieval Europe)
1. (Clothing & Fashion) a jacket or jerkin, originally of quilted cotton, worn under a coat of mail
2. (Clothing & Fashion) a leather jacket padded with mail
[from Old French auqueton, probably ultimately from Arabic alqutun the cotton]

From this information, it appears that the fabric spelling is what I thought - Acton.

But this is the first I'm seeing it (the word never registered with me before, even though it's been my dress for nearly 40 years.)

Still interested in others' opinions.

Mia
