70s, not 60s? 60s, not 70s? I dunno, actually.

This morning and when I bought this, I was firmly dating this as '60s. I'm suddenly getting both a '60s & a '70s vibe on this black wool jersey dress. It can't be both, but it could be later '60s as that's what the length suggests to me.

What do you think? It's by Carlye, that great St. Louis manufacturer that I love to find because the quality is quite nice for a mid-range price point label.

This appliqué is felt...I love it! I feel like there's a decorator-way to describe this scroll-y shape. Any terms/descriptors come to mind?

Oy. I pushed post when I wanted to say--THANK you in advance for any ideas or thoughts you have on my dress.

Oooh - what shade of red is that. Coca Cola? or more orangey? Eventually I will be looking in something in early 60s Roman red when I find it...

Hi! Phew. I guess what they say is true--your first answer is usually the right answer.

Thanks for the confirmation and the adulatory comments.

I would wear it in a heartbeat, too. The two women I shopped with when this came home with me both said the same thing. Do they have Spanx that shape shift the entire torso to just about the knee, including arms and neck?

It's fairly true to color on my monitor--not entirely Coca-cola red, but definitely leaning to the more orangey side. There is still some blue in it. It's almost like html red, actually.

I love that orangey red that was so popular in the 60s. I have a Geoffrey Beene in that color. We don't seem to see that very often in fashion these days. (Or at least I don't.)

Thanks again, everyone.

Thanks --arabesque is good, MS.

I'm glad you're all enjoying this. Seriously--total body spanx. And rib removal. That's about the only way it would ever fit me.

This in the top 10 favorites of anything I've possessed. One key reason is that it's not that easy to find great Fall and Winter dresses to wear here. It's FREAKIN' cold for at least 4 months a year. I'm getting to cranky and old to suffer through it. I need to be covered up. Right now, in fact, I'm in my Snuggie. (Just kidding!)
