I don't think I've told you this before.
When I was in Chicago in the spring, I snoop shopped at Neiman's. In the Chanel Boutique, they had a black and white plaid top with princess seams. On the front, nothing matched. The two fronts were different and so were the side fronts. Needless to say, none of the seams matched. I'm not describing a little off; this was major. I forgot to mention that the price was $3200.
I went down the street to the Chanel boutique. They had the same top, but the fronts were balanced. Balanced is a term to describe two sections which are alike but don't match the sections next to them. You see this frequently on knit shirts--the sleeves will have the same plaid, but they won't match the fronts at the armscyes. Another use is pockets--bias pockets will be balanced.
Back to the Chanel Boutique-- the fronts were the same and the side fronts were they same but they didn't match at the princess seams.
It was raining that day so I watched the video of the rtw show. You've guessed it -- the model garment in the show matched.
