A coat, a dress, or a coatdress?

At first I thought this was a coat but when I put it on the manikin I decided it looked more like a dress. What do you think?

I am not an expert, but I would call that a dress. And it's soooo cute! I love it.

I should also add that the fabric is mid weight cotton twill-type and it is fully lined in satin. It is a full zip front.

That occurred to me while I was at the estate sale. I looked and looked but couldn't find a matching sheath dress. But that doesn't mean there didn't used to be one, of course.
It was only after I got home and put it on the mannequin that I started to think it might actually be a stand-alone dress because of how well-fitted it is. I'll probably never know for sure. Oh well, I love it how it is!

It does look like a dress, but if the bottom just opens up easily there had to be some sort of under garment, maybe a pair of trousers.

Mary Jane, the zipper starts only about two inches above the hem and goes all the way up to the neckline.
I, too, think the label is fab! (This same label is already in VFG's label resource from another contributor.)

It looks like a hostess set missing it pants. I have a few sets and the top is usually tunic style with slits on the sides as well.

There are no slits on the side and it is fitted enough where it never appeared to me as a hostess set. But I suppose that's a possibility!
