A coat, a dress, or a coatdress?

At first I thought this was a coat but when I put it on the manikin I decided it looked more like a dress. What do you think?

Could it be part of an ensemble? I can see a sheath dress under it.
Marian

That occurred to me while I was at the estate sale. I looked and looked but couldn't find a matching sheath dress. But that doesn't mean there didn't used to be one, of course.
It was only after I got home and put it on the mannequin that I started to think it might actually be a stand-alone dress because of how well-fitted it is. I'll probably never know for sure. Oh well, I love it how it is! :)

It looks like a hostess set missing it pants. I have a few sets and the top is usually tunic style with slits on the sides as well.
