A Coat Conundrum

I have a boatload of coats to sell, and am not too bad at dating most of them (I think!). But I have some here that I am stumped on, including one that I have no clue as to the date or what exactly it is supposed to be... Can anyone date these better than I have? TIA!

First, this little swing jacket that I love, but can't date; can find nothing in any reference that looks like this! First I thought 40's, but can't be, right? Early 50's? has HRG Consumer Protection label (National Recovery Board on reverse). And I simply can't figure out what kind of fur or animal skin this is supposed to imitate--I have a closeup shot (great buttons, btw). It kinda looks like that faux pony hair stuff, or like cow hair! It's structured in little tufts of hair then cut off short. I personally have never, ever seen anything quite like it!

And, a "Miss Brent" fuzzy little thing. Early to mid 60's?

I would agree with you on the last one (which is so cute!). I think I too would have thought 'new look' on the swingy one, I can imagine it with a pencil skirt? I'm not sure how to describe the fabric either, almost a camel hair effect.. but not - I know what sort you mean!

Well I wasn't much help there...:BAGUSE: I'm sure someone more informed will be along soon! :)

I have a great pencil skirt to show that swing jacket with--thanks for the idea. I'll re-shoot it! The fabric is really stumping me; I don't really "care" what it is supposed to be, but I cannot for the life of me think what to say about it, but is is so unusual, I feel it merits description!

Is the 1st one mohair or meant to look like it is?
I have seen Rothchild do childrens coats and teen coats in this style(2nd coat) in the 80s and 90s.
The third is cute and I agree with 60's.

Sue, they are amazingly alike! Thanks for the tip on "neo-victorian." I love the hat with yours. I don't have a matching hat for mine, but I do have one I should have photographed with this. I simply must remember to look around for accessories to show.... Well, if it doesn't sell in a couple of days or so, I'll re-shoot with the hat!

And that first jacket is not meant to look like mohair or camel. It's not showing as well in the photo as I'd like. It is coarse and tufted. Honestly, it looks like somebody was trying to imitate cow hair or pony hair, in a stylized way. I know that sounds weird, but it isn't any wool-like or fur-like thing.... In person, this coat looks really "cool," and feels very different.

Hi,
RE: #1 swing coat
The wierdest wool blends I have seen for coats were on Lilli Ann coats.
The fabrics were imported from France. and got pretty exotic at times.
Check around for some of her coats and you will find styles that are nearly identical to what you show here.
When you look at other websites, note the lining type, that could give you a clue too.

Jennifer, thank you very much! Now that you mention it, I have seen some Lilli Ann coats in similar style if not fabric! The lining is stunning in itself, extremely high quality & rich--sumptious I'd say! I expect this was pricey when new, especially given the fact that it is almost like new afer all these years. I have this listed now and have some interest in it. I wonder if I can say "Lilli-Ann" look.... I think I will!

the top one definately circa 1957 as my mum is wearing one when preggers with me ..identical..

the red one is definately mid 80s... the nautical theme...

and the 'mod' one is c 1964-66...

Sara, thanks! I was pretty much "on" on the last 2, but was shootin' in the dark on the other! I'll have to update my listing on that one! (I just adore that one & would love to keep it except my short body doesn't do that darling silhouette justice at all--it needs someone taller!)
