A comment about shipping to Italy

For a few years I did not ship clothing to Italy because of the regulations, but so many sellers seemed to be comfortable sending garments there (of course the other issue is the Italian postal service) that I decided to join the club.

I just made my largest sale ever on eBay ... and wouldn't you know it, the buyer is from Italy. I mentioned to her in an e-male Italy's custom regulations and here is what she said -

----
"I buy antique clothing from USA since 2002 and I never had problems, so I think we don't have to worry. I know that regulations say that "sewn articles of any kind" are prohibited, but this rule is no more applied here (in Italy there are a lot of rules written on paper but no more used -_-). "
----

So I guess I feel better about that aspect of shipping to Italy.

I would ship Global Priority ONLY! Have you been reading the threads on the EBay Stores board? Someone posted a video of tons of boxes and packages just sitting piled up in an Italian postal warehouse undelivered.

I've had to refund 2 buyers from Italy in the last couple of months-
I think I'm going to go Priority only for Italy & Mexico
(the other place a buyer never received a Int'l 1st class).
Fortunately, I don't get many buyers from that neck of the woods.

I've never had a problem either. I always send Global Priority. I was told however that insurance only insures packages in the United States. Once they leave the country, there is no insurance. A postal person told me this. I had never heard this before.

I have been told the insurance is only good for USA also. I only ship Priority when it is International. I dont ship parcel in the USA because it can take 9-.... however many days they want it to take to get to the customer. When I first started selling (almost a year ago), I shipped Parcel and it took a pair of jeans 4 months to get to my customer. Of course there is no tracking number, so it sat in a warehouse until someone decided to deliver it... luckily she was patient and nice about it, I felt bad. I have never been able to ship first class international via the paypal shipping... I think thats a good thing?! lol
