A cure for de-gooping patent leather

I have a clutch purse with a fold in handle that I carry quite a bit. Its a decent quality faux patent leather. Somebody put a sticker on it, and it didn't peel right off, it left the whole white backing on it. It was one of those large rectangular name tag stickers.

I tried Goo Gone. The directions are to spray it and then wipe it, and then wash with soap and water. The soap and water part for this type of thing is not the way to go...dish soap and handsoap both create streaky residue and leave a film.

The best thing to do is spray the goo gone and then wipe it with a soft cloth immediately. (a towel will do - paper towel might leave residue) . As you are wiping it - "buff" it until there is no goo gone or sticky mark is left. Maybe it is because goo gone is a petroleum product and that is why it works.

WARNING: DO NOT try this if it is real patent leather. Goo Gone has a warning to not use on leather so i would not risk it. Maybe try it on a leather purse that is patent but beyond all repair or restoration and is not salvageable in any way to test it first.

Anyway, i was just happy to have saved a purse.

Goo Gone is my DH's answer to pretty much everything... nice to know it's safe to use on some purses, too!

Thanks for the tip ;)

I use Goo Gone all the time on any patent leather with no problem. It is great!
