A few hats needing dates, please...

All from an estate where the items ranged from 40s through 60s (she was too old for fashionable new clothes beyond that point). First up, a Brighton of California grosgrain beret. Snappy, no? I really like this one. Tag looks vaguely modern, but no way this lady was buying/wearing anything this chic after the 60s.

Next up... mohair(?)

pork-pie style...

Uh oh, really? It's a distinct possibility, based on the lady's age. Although MOST of her stuff was 50s/60s, and nearly all came from Rich's and Davison's. Still, I'd better update my listing (and raise the price!).

Hi,

It certainly could be 1940's, but it also could be 1950's. It is hard to 100% sure when only looking at a photo and not handling it or seeing it in person. The style is classic so it crosses decades, however those grosgrain hats were indeed very popular in the 1940's. Most of grosgrain hats circa late 1930's to early 1950's I have seen were home made, but a few were salon made. The label does look more modern than 1940's to me too, which may date it later. The needle on the label was also used by several 1950's milliners, so that alone is not an accurate way to date the hat. I do agree that the size "22" tag looks older than the other label. Size tags sort of went away in the late 1950's as more hats were made "one size fits all". Either way it is very cute.
