A Few Novelty Prints

I was just digging through some old pictures of things I have sold in the past. The items that were novelty prints seem to have stuck in my mind the most. I was never one for dainty florals. I always liked the more geometric motifs. But there are some novelty prints that I have been attached to.

But what makes one large scale floral a floral and another one a novelty print? If the flowers had smiley faces on them or bugs crawling on the flowers, it would crossover into novelty print. I guess the definition of a novelty print is exactly that..."novel"...it makes you look. Unless someone else has a better definition

This was one I really really liked. Unfortunately the dress was too big for me (i think i was wishful thinking when i bought it), and darnit it was the wrong red too so it went on sale in my mall shop. It was a Lynbrooke 50s/60s cusper shirtwaist dress. I have never found anything else about Lynbrooke ever. No relation to Kerrybrooke i don't believe.

This is another one that I sold very recently in the past few months. 70s "butterfly specimen" wrap skirt. No label.

I must have more somewhere...

Has anyone else found anything interesting lately or have any "greatest hits"?

Chris

Cute, Chris. I'm a real fan of novelty prints. I'm thinking that Lynbrooke was primarily a shirtmaker.

I like to think that novelty prints tell a story. A few I've got now:

Vested Gentress, the king of 70-80s novelty prints

<img src=http://members.sparedollar.com/fuzzylizzie/love5.jpg>
Love letters and roses

I've got lots more that I need to get photographed.

My all time favorite was a fox hunting scene from the 50s. The Fox was sitting on a "No Hunting" sign. I can't believe I sold that one.

These are great! It's going to be a while before I can contribute anything, as it all needs a serious iron - but be warned....it'll be a lot! :spin:

Finally... I've managed to take some pictures:

Here's a ?late 50s-early 60s? block-y knight print, used by both Carole Little and Sears Kerrybrooke.

<img src="http://worldservice.noirboudoir.com/printbazaar/knightskirts.jpg" width=600>

And, made in Bermuda 'by Veronica', and sold in St. George, in the early 50s showing RAF planes amongst the palms (including, I think, a Vulcan jet).

Faded somewhat by a previous owner's misadventure with bleach...

These aren't for sale, but there *will* be some soon...

WOW!! I love that Vested Gentress fat kitty! Those butterflies are great too, Chris.

I have two scarves that I have yet to photograph. One is a 50's scarf depicting teenage dating scenes and the other is a fashion maven scarf depicting SHOES!

I half wish i didn't sell the butterfly skirt, but it was just a tad big for me...so i don't feel quite so bad. I really had to wrap it around to get it not to fall off the manni (which means its normal person sized) :)

So sad you couldn't wear the butterfly Chris.......

ALot of my stuff I can't wear b/c I am so short. :sniff:

Of course that is a good thing too, b*c then I would have nothing to sell. :spin:

I am also a member of the shortpersons club (5' :) so i feel your pain.

Anyone else have something funky/cute/interesting to share?

I happen to have two cute Vested Gentress dresses up for auction now. Here are the prints:

Adorable. I have a VG up as wel, but it's a snorer compared to those.

I love the 50s RAF plane skirt.

A few from the closet of a Scotties lover:

<img src=http://members.sparedollar.com/fuzzylizzie/publicscot3.jpg>
A 40s robe.

<img src=http://members.sparedollar.com/fuzzylizzie/publicscot1.jpg>
Not really a print, the Scotties are woven into the fabric. This is a 50s full-skirted shirtdress.

<img src=http://members.sparedollar.com/fuzzylizzie/publicscot2.jpg>
This is the only Vested Gentress Scottie print I've ever seen. The garment was a homemade straight skirt with elastic waist that was too big, so I'm remaking it to fit. So I'm assuming you could buy VG yard goods.

Not Scotties, but soo cute to pass up! Remember this one Sue?

I found this piece of fabric this weekend. Could that possibly be a dachshund, Chris?

The piece is dated 1961, and most of it will soon be a skirt.

<img src=http://members.sparedollar.com/fuzzylizzie/publicnov.jpg>

Yes that would indeed be a dachshund amid the poodle, dalmatian...and is that a schnauzer?

The head is not on profile..sort of a 3/4 so you don't see the long snout. The tale is a little short, but i think they were using "artistic license" :)

That will be cute, Lizzie, are you going to wear it with a Scottie top so that they are represented :)

Persian Garden Modern...

Just bringing them in as I do them...

I like this one particularly because it takes the elements of a Persian miniature - of some sages in a garden or madrasseh, for example, or some travellers entering a courtyard - and chops them up, mid-century style, to scatter across a blank background.

The bits:

<img src="http://worldservice.noirboudoir.com/orientaliste/persiangardentrio.jpg" width=350>

<img src="http://worldservice.noirboudoir.com/orientaliste/persiangardencarpet.jpg" width=350>

And, to the left, the whole:

<img src="http://worldservice.noirboudoir.com/orientaliste/persiangardenfull.jpg" width=500>

I've got a buyer already interested in this, but in case not, it's a tight 26" waist...

L :)

That's a neat one, Lin!

Theme-wise i am surprised you sold it! (or selling it)
(unless tight 26 means really realy really tight like a 23 LOL)
