A good article about Laura Ashley

I read her tell-all biography and although her dresses were sweet, she apparently was not. She was a bit of a control freak and I wonder if the business going downhill on the heels of her death wasn't partly her fault as nobody was left in creative charge to continue the Laura Ashley look into the future. I remember seeing one of the first store windows of the Laura Ashley outlet in Toronto after her death and rather suddenly the look went from milkmaid to corporate woman -- it was very weird. I didn't know they are gone now -- that is sad since her look was so unique and identifiable.

The biography is on my 'must pick up a copy' list. Laura Ashley is still going, I think the company picked up a little again but do a lot more home furnishings/furniture - it's an older article.

You can see how that would happen quite easily (losing the 'look'); speaking as a bit of a control freak myself, I think you just assume you do it or no one does it with no contingency plan!

Although I did hear that Burberry announced today they are moving production overseas (China I think). Which I think is a shame as they are such an historically 'English' brand.
